Important Legislative Information

The 2008 WA Legislative session begins Monday, Jan 14th. It is a "short session" running 60 days, or till mid March. Get ready to advocate for health care issues for children and families:
1) Subscribe to the Children's Alliance - Children's Action Alerts - at their website: www.childrensalliance.org - and go to Sign up for Updates and Alerts.
2) Save www1.leg.wa.gov on your browser "favorites" . This official WA Legislative website helps you find your legislators' contact info, lists committee hearing dates and schedules, allows you to track a bill, etc.
3) Save the legislative hotline number: 1.800.562.6000 on your cell phone. When a call to your legislator is needed to support or vote 'no' on a bill, you will be ready to do some quick - 3 minute - lobbying.
Consider attending a legislative day this year to join others in advocating for children's health and welfare issues, or professional NP issues:

WA Chapter NAPNAP 2008 Health Policy Priorities

1. Promote access to comprehensive health care for children including children with special health care needs and advocate for improved access to comprehensive preventive health care services.
2. Promote awareness and recognition of mental health and emotional problems in children and adolescents in all health care settings, and advocate for legislation for improved access to mental health services.
3. Promote legislation leading to the prevention of childhood overweight and obesity, and advocate for strategies to promote healthy nutrition and physical activity levels throughout childhood.
4. Promote legislation to remove barriers to Advanced Practice Registered Nursing in all health care settings. Oppose exclusive language limiting the scope of practice for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
5. Promote funding and strategies to address the nursing shortage and the development of nursing faculty.
